How to Select Sofa Slipcovers

Sofa SlipcoversThere are many varieties of sofa design on the market. Finding the right slipcover to accompany your sofa can be a bit of a problem when ordering ready-made covers. One of the factors you need to consider when choosing a sofa slipcover is to understand your sofa design style. Sofas are categorized by four different styles of their seat backs. They are tight back, loose pillow back, attached pillow back, and multi pillow back.

Tight Back Sofa – A tight back sofa normally have the firmest seat since their backs have no cushions or pillows. Sitting on this type of sofa gives the person a very upright sitting posture. Slipcovers for these sofas have a very smooth, cozy fitting look. Ready-made sofa slipcovers look best on tight back sofas.

Attached Pillow Back Sofa – Attached pillow back sofas generally uses permanently fastened cushions to soften the lines of the sofa along the back. This allows the sofa to keep a neat and tidy look. Careful not to stain the cushions as once stained they are difficult to hide. You can find a nice sofa slipcover that fits well but you probably have to use padding to even out the spaces between the cushions.

Loose Pillow Back Sofa – These types of sofas have an equal number of seat and back cushions, thus allows you to flip over the pillows to hide any stains but you would probably run into problem trying to match up the patterns. This type is one of the more difficult pieces to find a ready-made sofa slipcover that will fit appropriately. You will have to use padding to fill the cracks and hold the pillows down.

Multi Pillow Back Sofa – This kind of sofa is also called a scatter back since the back cushions outnumber the seat cushions and are “scattered around” along the back. These sofas are very popular because you can just sink back and relax in their many pillows. But they are the most difficult furniture piece to find sofa slipcovers for. The extra pillows don’t like to lay flat at the back and you may have to remove one or two to get any type of snug fit.

Now that you know how your sofa’s styling can impact the fit of a sofa slip cover, you are ready to get going looking for a slipcover for your sofa that will protect your furnishing and look great at the same time.
