Microwaves, excuse the pun, were the biggest wave of last century! This little invention enabled people to cook and heat food in a fraction of the time that it takes a conventional oven. No heat is even involved when using a microwave; food is heated by a concentration of energy. Microwaves have a tube, called a magnetron tube, that send out short, electromagnetic waves, also known as “microwaves.”
