The New Year Is Not a Time to Feel Guilty

The New Year is a time for fortitude, rebuilding, and forging ahead with ambitious new plans (and carrying them out!). Guilt is a toxic emotion. It’s nearest equivalent is probably self-pity. Oftentimes, what people really feel when they feel guilty is not true remorse at all but rather that they are despised and hated by others. In any case there is no healing or reconciliation through guilt. Guilt never results in anything good; it never results in the healing of a wound.
